We absolutely adore our air fryer! It’s incredibly easy to use, cuts down on cooking time, and the best part is that you don’t need to add oil to your dishes. Lately, I’ve been adjusting some of my recipes to work with the air fryer, and that’s how these air fryer fruit scones came about!
We also love scones, particularly cheese scones. We even make air fryer cheese biscuits and Ninja Foodi cheese scones. They’re an excellent way to enjoy a different snack, and they’re affordable, simple to prepare, and quick to make at home. If you’ve never experienced a warm cheese scone straight from the oven or air fryer, you’re truly missing out!
I’ve tested these scones in various ways, using different fruits, fruit peels, and even some seeds. But in my opinion, these are the original and best fruit scones! They’re delicious with just a slight crisp on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside.
Air fryer scones are incredibly simple, light, and absolutely scrumptious. You can tweak some of the ingredients in this recipe as well—more details on that further down. I love how easy they are to make, and they come together in just a few minutes.
These scones are perfect for afternoon tea or as a fun, simple snack or treat for little ones. Air fryer fruit scones are fantastic when paired with clotted cream and jam—simple yet so delicious! I love finding ways to save money on fruits and vegetables, and buying bulk packages of sultanas, raisins, and other dried fruits is a great way to enjoy fruit-based treats and bakes without spending a lot.

Ingredients for air fryer fruit scones:
- 120g self-raising flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 40g butter
- 20g sultanas
- 20g sugar
- 75ml semi-skimmed milk
How to make scones in an air fryer: I’ve adapted this method from my air fryer cheese biscuits recipe.
- Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (390°F) if necessary.
- Mix the flour and butter together until the texture resembles breadcrumbs. Add a pinch of salt and the baking powder.
- Stir in the sultanas, followed by the sugar.
- Pour in the milk and mix everything together.
- Divide the mixture into four portions.
- Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper.
- Drop the mixture into the basket. For a drier consistency, you can add 5g more flour to the dough and use a cookie cutter to shape the scones.
- Air fry for 8-10 minutes at 200°C. Use a cake tester to ensure they are cooked through before serving.
If you’re looking for another way to use your fruit, why not try this light fruit cake loaf?
Possible modifications: You can use granulated sugar instead of caster sugar if needed. If you prefer, you can use plain flour, but be sure to add extra baking powder.
Can you air fry scones? Absolutely! I believe you can air fry almost anything that you would normally bake in the oven, depending on size.
For more delicate items like scones, avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket and use parchment paper. If necessary, you can spray a little oil to prevent sticking, especially for items like these fruit scones that you can’t flip or shake midway.
Jam and cream or cream and jam? I actually asked this on my Instagram, and the winner was jam and cream! People preferred spreading the jam first and then adding as much cream as they liked.
How do I get my fruit scones to rise? To get your scones to rise well, it’s important to use the right flour and baking powder. Ensure that the baking powder is fresh and hasn’t been sitting in your pantry for months. Avoid overworking the dough to keep it light. Cold butter and milk will help keep the dough cool and help it rise better.
When cutting out the scones, use a sharp cutter and avoid twisting it to ensure they rise evenly.
Why are my fruit scones dry? If your scones are coming out dry, it might be because you overworked the dough. When mixing the dough, do so gently and only until the ingredients are combined.
You can also add a little more milk and give the scones a nice brush before cooking to keep them moist. Check them 1-2 minutes before the end of the cooking time to avoid overcooking, which can also make them dry.
