Air Fryer Pierogies are among the most frequently requested recipes we get asked to share. These delightful, pillow-like snacks are made with a creamy blend of potatoes and cheese, making them perfect as a quick snack, side dish, or even a standalone meal.

What Are Pierogies?

Pierogies are small, pillow-shaped European dumplings filled with either sweet or savory ingredients before being cooked. When I first spotted these delightful dumplings in the frozen food aisle of my local supermarket, I couldn’t wait to try making them in my air fryer.

The pierogies I purchased were filled with potatoes and cheese, which delivered more than enough flavor. However, you can also find them stuffed with ingredients like beef, cheddar, sauerkraut, or onions. I personally love using Kasia’s brand, as they crisp up beautifully in the air fryer.

What You’ll Need for Air Fryer Pierogies

To prepare these, an air fryer is essential. I used my Cosori Air Fryer (5.8-quart model) to cook the frozen pierogies. When cooked straight from the freezer, they take about 12 minutes. If slightly thawed, the cooking time reduces to approximately 10 minutes.

Ingredients and Tools

For this recipe, I opted for frozen pierogies to save time and keep things simple. You’ll need the following:

  • Frozen pierogies: Store-bought pierogies work great.
  • Olive oil: About one tablespoon to ensure crispiness and prevent sticking.

Optional ingredients include your preferred toppings or accompaniments. I usually enjoy mine with sour cream for dipping, but for a more traditional Polish touch, consider caramelized onions, mushrooms, sausage, cabbage, or even vegetables.

How to Make Air Fryer Pierogies

Follow these steps to cook perfect air fryer pierogies:

  1. Arrange in the Basket
Place the frozen pierogies in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid overlapping or stacking them to ensure even cooking. If needed, cook them in batches.
  2. Add Olive Oil
Lightly coat the pierogies with olive oil. You can use a cooking spray, brush the oil on, or toss them to coat evenly. This not only enhances their crispiness but also prevents them from sticking to the air fryer basket.
  3. Cook Until Golden
Set the air fryer to 400°F and cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping the pierogies halfway through. They should be golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Serving Suggestions

Once cooked, serve the pierogies warm with your favorite dipping sauce. Sour cream is a classic choice, but you can also pair them with toppings like caramelized onions or sautéed mushrooms for added flavor.
